Thatchscapes was recently employed by Umoya Energy (Pty) Ltd to build a small information centre next to the Hopefield Wind Farm in the Western Cape. This centre will give the public the opportunity to stop right next to the massive wind turbines to learn more about what they do and how they function. We are also in talks about building Thatch lapas for them as well.
Our expert team took only 3 days to complete the project. Lath panelling was installed on two sides of the structure where information boards will be displayed. This 66 MW Hopefield Wind Farm has achieved its commercial operation date. Construction on the project, which comprises 37 wind turbines, began in late 2012, having been identified as a preferred project during the Department of Energy’s first Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme bid window.
The wind farm was completed on time and budget and will generate enough electricity to power about 70 000 low-income homes, or 29 000 medium-income homes. Thatchscapes is proud to have been part of this project by giving the public a chance to learn more about this renewable energy source.
